Stem
Cell Therapy Clinic
It is the nature of humanity to question new advances in technology
and new medical treatments. In the Middle Ages, people called the
doctors who tried to find out how the human body works heathens
and heretics. For a long time medical professionals scoffed at the
idea of antiseptic techniques and even when AIDS was first identified
people refused to believe that it existed. Today the same problem
exists whenever the question of Stem
Cell Therapy and treatments are raised. While there are already
Stem Cell Therapy clinics
that offer some treatments based on stem cell research, we have
only scratched the surface of what could be possible.
The main reason for the lack of pure research is the opinion
toward stem cell research that many people have. There is some
controversy around stem cell research. One could write and entire
article on the controversy but the main points are quite simple.
The main controversy surrounds the technique that is used to create
new Stem Cells - the
destruction of a blastocyst (which is a just fertilized human
embryo). The objections are based on both moral and religious
grounds with different groups having their own opinions on the
matter. On the other hand, supporters cite the success that Stem
Cell Therapy has already achieved and point to the new methods
being discovered that can create Stem
Cells without destroying a developing human being. While not
the witch hunts of the Middle Ages, Stem
Cell Therapy clinics still sometimes have to deal with activists.
Controversy aside, the introduction of Stem
Cell Therapy has lead to an important use in the treatment
of cancer patients with leukemia and lymphoma. For the past thirty
years, the cells from the bone marrow, and more recently from
the umbilical cord blood stem cells, have been used in treating
these patients. The chemotherapy involved in treating these patients
use cytotoxic agents that kill the growing cells. It is not only
the leukemia cells that are killed but also those that release
Stem Cells from the marrow.
In an effort to reverse the effect, healthy donor Stem
Cells are transplanted to replace the damaged, destroyed or
tainted Stem Cells of
the patient. Most Stem Cell
Therapy clinics prefer to use a donor but if this is not possible,
the patient's marrow can be used as long as a sample was taken
before chemotherapy was started.
This is the most famous and widely used treatment based on Stem
Cell Therapy that is practiced and applied by Stem
Cell Therapy clinics. As more and more stem cell research
is performed, however, researchers and doctors are discovering
more possible avenues in which Stem
Cells can be used. Some of the treatments that have been put
forward are to help in the treatment of serious conditions such
as brain damage, damage to the heart, and spinal cord injuries.
It has even been said that it can help to cure baldness or to
replace missing teeth! Stem
Cell Therapy may soon be the single thing that can alleviate
almost any human ailment.
